Tibetan children - Health and Education

Project Type

Photography

Date

2013

In the remote regions of northern India, near the Indo-Chinese border, Tibetan children face significant challenges in accessing education. Their parents, often former road workers, reside in makeshift shelters in these mountainous areas. The steep terrain, being part of the Himalayan foothills, makes the journey to the nearest school—over three miles away—arduous and unsafe for young children. To address this, a compassionate monk, Lama Palsar has established a boarding school in the nearest community below thier parents village, providing education to approximately 30 children aged 5 to 15. Lama Palsar not only imparts academic lessons but also instills cultural and moral values. All educational supplies are generously donated by supporters from countries such as the UK, France, Germany, and the United States. This grassroots effort reflects a broader commitment to preserving Tibetan culture and providing quality education to Tibetan children in exile. Organizations like the Tibetan Children’s Education Foundation out of Helena Montana have been instrumental in offering care and education to Tibetan children across India. These collective efforts aim to empower Tibetan children through education, enabling them retain thier cultural herritage and to support their families and contribute positively to society.
